Looking for a home for wool of Olympic proportions…

K2TOG will be up until 30 September, but we are already thinking about what will happen to the wool after the piece has been taken down.

After all the goodwill and time put into the project, we are eager for the wool from the installation to be reused and go to a good cause. We are now looking for people or organisations who would be interested in it.

Over 1300 balls of wool, approximately 220 for each column have been used in order to make the installation, including Alpaca, Merino and a blend of British wool. All are 100% natural fibers.

Stitches and Hos Knitting Pentathlon

Are you a knitting champion? 

Stitches and Hos invite knitters of all ages and abilities to take part in their knitting pentathlon. Come to our K2TOG pop up shop on Saturday 16 June to battle for woolly glory.

Events are:

Fastest cast on, pompom put, 300 stitch row, fastest skein wind and knitting marathon

Entry to knitting pentathlon is £1 per person.

The Olympic torch is working its way across the country and the K2TOG pop-up shop is busy with knitters.

There are now only seven days until the end of our crowd-fundraiser. Go on, please help us meet our target and fund our knitting workshops. We’re aiming to teach as many people as we can the wonderful skill of hand-knitting. What a wonderful opportunity for people to learn a new skill and be part of a project to welcome the Jamaican and American teams to Birmingham for London 2012.

Less than 50 days until the Jamaican team arrive in Birmingham

It’s not long until the Jamaican and American teams arrive in Birmingham but it’s even sooner to our crowd-funding deadline! Why not help welcome Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth and the rest of the teams to the second city in a truly unique way!

There’s only 12 days to donate to the K2TOG project. Even a pound will help us continue our knitting workshops. You can donate and find out more here.

Why not also contribute to the project by knitting a square which will end up covering the columns of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Drop-in to our pop-up shop in the Pavilions to find out more about the project, learn how to knit and pick up some wool too!

There are 20 days left to help us reach our crowd-funding goal. We really need your help to continue to fund the workshops in order for our knit graffiti installation to be made. The piece will be a colourful, spectacular welcome to the Jamaican and American teams to Birmingham. Please donate, help us and participate in something very unique to the city.

The pop-up shop in the Pavilions was busy over the bank holiday weekend with lots of people visiting to find out more about the project and have a knit. It was great to see people starting to cast on and contribute to the piece. Why not come and pick up some wool and take part?

It’s been lovely meeting people, getting them knitting and telling them about the installation. We’ve also had some great comments about the shop. 

I’d like to take this chance to thank everyone who helped get the shop up and running.  Gen, Tom, Simon and Ruth for donating furniture.  Ben for illustrating the how to knit wall and designing the vinyls. Sharon for helping me apply the vinyls in the dark. Vicky and Helen for being understanding pairs of extra hands just when I needed them.

K2TOG pop up shop is located in Pavilions Birmingham.  Opening hours are Wednesdays - Saturdays 12-6pm and Sundays 12-5pm.
